CGI Sliding & Patio Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CGI-compatible sliding and patio door parts across Houston, with most roller, track, and lock replacements running $165 – $420 installed depending on the part and your door’s series. If you call before noon, we can usually have a tech at your door same day or next morning with the part on the truck. Most Houston owners discover the problem the hard way: a door that suddenly takes two hands to move, a lock that won’t throw, or a roller that grinds metal-on-metal after years of Gulf Coast humidity and pollen working into the track.

CGI builds its sliding doors for hurricane-rated performance, which means heavier frames, thicker glass, and tighter seals than a standard patio door. That’s good for storm protection. It also means the hardware works under more load, and when a roller or lock gives out, you feel it immediately. Elliot Vance has seen enough CGI doors in Houston to know exactly which parts fail first and which ones just need a good cleaning.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s sliding door lineup includes the Estate Series, Targa Series, and the heavier commercial-rated doors built for coastal wind zones. Most Houston homes have the Estate or Targa line, but we’ve worked on all of them. The compatibility gotcha: older CGI sliders from the mid-2000s use a roller housing that’s 3/16″ narrower than post-2012 models, and a generic replacement roller will bind in the track. You can’t tell by eye, and we’ve corrected more than a few DIY attempts where someone forced a wrong-sized roller in and scarred the track.
To identify your door, check the corner of the glass or the inside edge of the frame for a CGI etched logo and a series code, usually two letters followed by four digits. That code tells us the exact roller, lock, and weatherstrip spec. On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question: for CGI rollers and locks, we use OEM or CGI-spec equivalents. The tolerances on these doors are tight enough that a parts-store generic causes drag and accelerated track wear. Spending $9 more on the right roller saves you a $200 track repair two years later.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with CGI. We carry parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows sliders as well, so if your door turns out to be a different brand, we can usually match it on the spot.
Signs Your CGI Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
- The door takes real effort to open or close. This almost always means a roller bearing has gone flat or the roller wheel is worn into an oval. On a CGI door, the added weight of laminated glass accelerates this once lubrication fails.
- You hear grinding or a metallic rattle in the lower track. That’s the roller wheel running without a bearing, cutting into the aluminum track. Left alone, a $40 roller becomes a $200+ track replacement.
- The lock won’t throw or the handle flops loose. CGI mortise locks use an internal spring that fatigues over time, especially with the heat-expansion cycles Houston doors go through every summer. If the handle moves but doesn’t engage, the spring is done.
- Water or daylight at the bottom corner when closed. The interlock weatherstrip compresses permanently after years of sun and humidity. You’re losing AC efficiency and inviting Houston’s carpenter ant population.
- The door drifts closed on its own. That’s a leveling problem, usually from the house settling or the top track pulling loose. It’s not always a part failure, but it will destroy rollers if uncorrected.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For Houston CGI sliders, here’s what we quote on paper before any work starts:
- Roller replacement (both panels): $165 – $280 installed. Includes two or four CGI-spec rollers, track cleaning, and adjustment.
- Lock and handle replacement: $120 – $230 installed depending on series and finish.
- Weatherstrip and interlock seal replacement: $90 – $185 installed.
- Full track replacement (lower): $275 – $420 installed. We do this less often, usually when rollers were run flat too long.
The range comes down to your door’s series, whether both panels need hardware, and how much track cleanup is required. You get a written line-item price before we touch the door, and it doesn’t move. Every repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the same part fails within the year, we come back at no charge. No fine print on labor.

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few things yourself. Clean the track with a dry brush and a vacuum, check for loose screws on the handle, and verify the door hasn’t simply come off level by checking the gap at the top and bottom. If the track is clean and the gap is even but the door still drags, that’s a bearing and it’s not a homeowner job.
Removing a CGI sliding panel safely takes two people and the right lifting technique. These panels are heavier than standard doors. A DIY roller swap on a 180-pound panel is where people get hurt or drop the glass, and a dropped CGI panel is a four-figure mistake. If your door is fighting you, call (432) 278-2282 and let one of our techs handle it. The estimate is free.
FAQs
Expect 8 – 12 years from original CGI rollers in Houston’s humidity and heat. Doors on west-facing exposures or homes near the coast tend to wear rollers faster due to salt air and thermal expansion cycling. If your door is over a decade old and getting stiff, the rollers are due.
No. Roller bearings are not serviceable. Once the bearing is flat or the wheel is worn out of round, the fix is replacement. Attempting to lubricate a dry bearing gets you a week or two at best before the grinding returns. Call (432) 278-2282 and we’ll get the right pair installed.
Most single-part replacements on CGI sliders run 45 – 90 minutes on site. We carry common CGI rollers, locks, and weatherstrip on the truck, so there’s no second trip for parts in most cases. Track replacements run 2 – 3 hours.
Yes. We keep CGI-spec rollers, mortise locks, handle sets, and weatherstrip for the Estate and Targa series in the truck, plus generic-spec parts for PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors. If your series needs something we don’t have on board, we quote a second-visit date before we leave.
If your CGI slider is dragging, grinding, or won’t lock, call (432) 278-2282 for a free estimate. We’ll put the price in writing, show up in a marked truck with a background-checked tech, and stand behind the work for a full year.
